Vasj's defense dominates Gilmour in a 48-14 blowout victory

Euclid, Ohio- Gilmour came into the game undefeated at 9-0. They never had a game scoring under 30 points. That changed when they met the VASJ defense. The Vikings were able to get six sacks and two interceptions in the 48-14 win.

Head coach Jeff Rotsky for VASJ touched on their ability to rush the passer.

“To be able to get home with only four guys is huge, because that allows us to play coverage," said Rotsky. "And if you have to start sending extra guys you know that it becomes more challenging.”

The game started slow for both offenses, they had empty first drives. VASJ emphasized the run with several backs. TJ Moore ran an 84 yard touchdown to strike first for them. They led 6-0 with about eight minutes to go in the quarter.

Gilmour found success with their passing attack. A huge 26 yard gain for Sean Dillard from Cooper Panteck set them up to score. Aiden McNamara ran in a five yard touchdown to make the score 7-6.

Ronnie Taylor closed the quarter with a three yard touchdown run. After a two point conversion catch from Christian Chase, VASJ led 14-7.

The Vikings defense made their mark in the second. Despite Gilmour having the ball over half of the quarter, they gave up no points.

A huge key to that was their strong efforts to pressure Panteck. The team had three sacks in the quarter with a big one coming in the red zone from Daelan Brandon. Taylor had another touchdown run in the quarter to extend the lead to 20-7 going into halftime.

The Vikings continued to impose their will defensively. Braylon Russell was huge in the period, snagging two interceptions. They capitalized on both turnovers, their passing game also gained momentum.

The first interception set up a 20 yard touchdown catch from Brian Kortovich. Gilmour answered with a 28 yard touchdown catch from Brody Lennon.

Although Gilmour stayed resilient, the VASJ offense continued to dominate. Johnny Vuraich threw another touchdown in the period, connecting with Savion Lewis on a 53 yard reception.

The Vikings ended the quarter with a big 72 yard run from Ronnie Taylor. Braylon Russell caught another interception and VASJ ended the fourth leading 40-14.

TJ Moore sealed the game early in the fourth with a two yard touchdown run. Villa Angela continued to be relentless defensively. They forced several empty drives and closed the game out winning 48-14.

Moore spoke briefly about his 232 yard performance.

“My big boys put in that work, they actually got me over one thousand this season,” said Moore.

As of right now VASJ's next opponent and location is to be announced.
