Tanner Bibee to make major league debut for Guardians vs Rockies on Wednesday

The Cleveland Guardians are about to get a look at their #5 prospect (MLB.com) and #3 pitching prospect a bit sooner than expected. Tanner Bibee will be called up to Cleveland on Wednesday to make his major league debut starting the Guardians afternoon game (1:10 PM) vs the Colorado Rockies. The Guardians starting rotation has been shook by injuries and inconsistencies the first month of the regular season.

Bibee was the Guardians 5th round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft out of Cal State Fullerton University where he spent four years. He made his professional debut in 2022 with the Guardians High A Lake County Captains throwing 4 scoreless innings allowing 2 hits while striking out 8 in his first start. He ended up making 12 starts for the Captains in 2022 posting a 2.59 ERA with 86 strikeouts in 59 innings.

Bibee was promoted to AA Akron on July 2nd, 2022. He finished the season making 13 starts for the Rubberducks posting a 1.83 ERA with 81 strikeouts in 73.2 innings. He put up some very impressive numbers combined between High A and AA in his first pro season.

2022: 2.17 ERA, 132.2 IP, 32 ER, 27 BB, 167 K, 1.8 BB/9, 11.3 K/9

The 24-year old Bibee has spent the first month of the 2023 season with the AAA Columbus Clippers where he has been just as impressive posting a 1.76 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 15.1 innings while hitting triple digits on the radar gun. Bibee will be the third Guardians pitching prospect to make his debut in 2023 joining Peyton Battenfield and Logan T. Allen.

Check out our interview with Bibee in 2022 before his first professional season.
