Streetsboro sets the tone early with a big 62-38 statement win over Crestwood

STREETSBORO, OH- A much hyped non conference matchup between two Portage County rivals took place in Streetsboro on Tuesday evening as the 17-3 Streetsboro Rockets hosted the 16-3 Crestwood Red Devils. After a tough three game losing streak, the Red Devils were looking to take their win streak to three games. The Rockets have been on a roll winning five straight. After starting out slow in the previous game against Field, the Rockets got off to a big start that helped propel them to a 62-38 win.


The Rockets came out fast and furious on offense as they began the game on a 15-0 run. Buckets by Jack Batten, Jackson Gula and Trevor Murray opened the game before a Janiere Cook three ball put them up 9-0 prompting a Red Devils timeout.

Out of the timeout and following another empty Red Devils possession, Gula hit a long jumper with a foot on the line before Charles Ivory scored four straight to push the lead to 15-0.

James Durham was finally able to get Crestwood on the board on a score inside with just over a minute to play in the quarter. Ivory would score inside for the Rockets before Brody Durham hit a three at the buzzer for the Red Devils making it a 17-5 Streetsboro lead after one.


It was a strong start to quarter two for the Rockets. Trevor Murray got the scoring started with a nice move inside before Jack Batten scored five straight including his first three of the game to push the Rockets lead out to 24-7.

The Rockets extended the lead to 21 points at 31-10 after a Gula three ball before Bryce Giel and Steve Lincoln hit back to back three's for Crestwood cutting the deficit to 31-16.

Streetsboro would take a 33-18 lead into halftime. Jackson Gula led the way at the break with 11 points for the Rockets while Brody Durham topped the Red Devils with 8.




Keeping with tradition, the Rockets got off to a good start to begin the 3rd. Baskets by Gula and Cook with a Batten three sandwiched in between put the Rockets lead at 40-18.

Crestwood would outscore the Rockets 11-6 the rest of the quarter to cut the deficit to 46-29 after three.


The Red Devils would be the one's with the strong start to quarter four after back to back buckets by James Durham and Dekota Johnson on a layup cut the deficit to 46-33.

Charles Ivory scored five straight which started a 14-1 run for the Rockets including another Ivory three that put the game away.

Crestwood got two scores late to make the final score 62-38 in favor of the Rockets.


Charles Ivory led all scorers for the Rockets with 18 points along with 9 rebounds. Jackson Gula chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds. Jack Batten had 13.


Brody Durham was tops for Crestwood with 14 points.


The Rockets wrap up the regular season at home on Friday night vs Cloverleaf before hosting VASJ next Friday in the Sectional Tournament. Crestwood wraps up their regular season with St. John's and Jefferson before hosting Cardinal Mooney in the Sectional Tournament next Saturday.
