Streetsboro runs past Coventry 51-15 behind Abbuhl's 16 points

STREETSBORO, OH- The Streetsboro Lady Rockets came into their game with Coventry on Tuesday night looking to bounce back from a tough 64-60 opening night loss to a very good Copley team. While it wasn't their best effort, the Rockets were able to take home a 51-15 win to move to 1-1 on the season.

It was a slow start for both teams with a combined six points scored in the first four minutes of the game. The Rockets were able to turn up the intensity featuring multiple steals by Olivia Johnson-Wilson and some aggressive defense. They finished the 1st quarter on a 14-0 run to take a 16-2 lead after one. Sydney Abbuhl had 8 of the 16 points for the Rockets.

The scoring run continued into the 2nd quarter. Claire Campbell opened it up with a three ball followed by Raegan Hendon and Naomi Benson buckets to extend the run to 21-0 and the lead to 23-2. A Maddy Matheny make for Coventry ended the scoring drought for the Comets. The Rockets would finish the half outscoring Coventry 11-2 to take a commanding 34-6 lead into halftime. Abbuhl still led the scoring with her 8 points. Benson, Johnson-Wilson and Campbell each added 6.

The second half started the same way the first half did with an Abbuhl bucket putting the Rockets up by 30. They would score the first 14 points of the 3rd quarter stretching the lead out to 47-6 before Comets senior guard Aunna Poteat scored the final 5 points, the last 3 coming on an and-one conversion. Abbuhl canned a pair of three's in the 3rd en route to her game high 16 points. Streetsboro led 47-11 after three.

Coach Singer unloaded the bench in the 4th as he was able to get some valuable playing time for some of his young sophomore's. The teams went even up 4-4 in the final quarter and the Rockets took this one 51-15.

Both Abbuhl and coach Singer alluded to the fact that despite the final score, they were not happy with the slow start and overall effort. There is much they would like to cleanup before their next game at Springfield.

Sydney Abbuhl led all scorers with 16 points knocking down three triples. Naomi Benson had 8 points to go along with 6 rebounds, leaving her 4 shy of 1,000 for her high school career. Aunna Coteat led the Comets with 11 points and 8 rebounds.

The Rockets will travel to Springfield for a matchup with the Spartans on 12/6 while Coventry travels to Cloverleaf that same evening.
