Streetsboro ramps up defense in 49-42 win over Norton

Streetsboro, Ohio - On Monday night the lady Norton Panthers came to Streetsboro to face off against the Rockets. For Streetsboro their team was 7-3 coming into this matchup while Norton was 7-5.

Winning the tip was Streetsboro, and they hit two free throws after being fouled. Later on, Olivia Johnson-Wilson hit a reverse layup for Streetsboro, and tied the game up at six each.

Soon after, Bailey Acord picked off a pass, and hit a layup in transition for Norton. Acord also got another layup after her teammate stole the ball in the backcourt. Norton held a 13-10 lead after one.

To start the second quarter Norton’s Addie Kropp shot the ball and got it wedged in the basket. Sydney Abbuhl got a mid-range shot to fall for the Rockets after a full-court pass in transition.

Norton blocked two shots in the span of about ten seconds, and Streetsboro came up empty on that possession. However, on the next possession, Abbuhl hit an and-one and made the free throw. Naomi Benson blocked a triple by Norton, and then scored a layup in transition to take the lead for Streetsboro. Norton still held a 26-23 lead at the half.

To start the second half, Abbuhl hit another layup cutting the lead to one. The score kept going back and forth with both teams jockeying for the lead.

However Streetsboro’s put up some stellar defense in the third quarter holding Norton to 7 points. The score was tied 33-33 heading into the fourth quarter. An exciting final quarter was about to take place.

In the fourth Acord hit a 3-pointer and took the lead for Norton. After that Kropp hit her own 3-pointer, to extend Norton’s lead. Johnson-Wilson made yet another 3-pointer to bring the Rockets back giving them the lead.

Streetsboro again clamped down defensively to hold their fourth quarter lead as they kept getting defensive stops. It was a struggle for both offenses. Norton couldn’t really get any offense going and the Rockets were able to pull out a 49-42 victory. Sydney Abbuhl led the way with 13 points leading Streetsboro to the win.
