STREETSBORO, OH- On Friday evening the Streetsboro Rockets welcomed in the Field Falcons for a Metro Athletic Conference Showdown. The Rockets came in on a roll at 16-3 winners of eight of their last nine games. Field was coming off of a win at Rootstown on Tuesday and looking to build some momentum. After a fast start by the Falcons, the Rockets were able to dominate the rest of the way outscoring Field 45-13 after the first quarter to take the 51-33 win.
The Falcons came in down two starters in Grady Eader and Trevor Dixon who are both rehabbing injuries. It didn't show early as the came out on fire offensively. They would jump out to an early 9-0 lead after back to back buckets from Ben Stayer and a three ball from Joey Conroy. After a pair of Rockets free throws, Landon Wilmoth canned a three for Field and Brayden Ronowski scored on a fast break layup to put the Falcons up 14-2.
Following a Jack Batten basket for Streetsboro, a pair of Conroy free throws and a Ronowski score inside pushed the Field lead out to 18-4.
Ethan Laryea scored inside for the Rockets before Ben Stayer converted a nice scoop score inside to make it a 20-6 Falcon lead after one.
Charles Ivory would get things going for the Rockets in quarter two hitting a three to open the scoring.
Brayden Ronowski was able to answer back with a corner three to push the lead back out to 23-9. Streetsboro would then go on a big 14-0 run capped off by a Trevor Murray three and a Janiere Cook and-one conversion to tie the game up at 23-23.
Ben Stayer would get a big bucket inside for Field putting them back up by two before Jack Batten hit a runner to beat the halftime buzzer tying the game at 25-25 at the break.
Ethan Layrea led the way for Streetsboro at the break with 6 points while Brayden Ronowski led all scorers with 9 points for the Falcons.
Field opened the 2nd half with a pair of Alec Grimm free throws putting them up 27-25. That would be their only points as Rockets would score the final 12 points of the 3rd quarter. A big momentum swing occurred when Batten hit back to back three's followed by a Trevor Murray three to go up 34-27.
The Rockets took a 37-27 lead into the final quarter.
Field would score five of the first seven points to open the 4th after a Ronowski three cut the Rockets lead to 39-32. From there it was all Streetsboro as they outscored Field 12-1 the rest of the way for the 51-33 win.
Jack Batten was fabulous in the 2nd half scoring 15 of his game high 19 points. Jackson Gula chipped in with 8 points and 10 rebounds. Brayden Ronowski led the Falcons with 14 points.
The 17-3 Rockets will face the 16-3 Crestwood Red Devils on Tuesday while Field looks to bounce back at Akron North.
