Streetsboro keeps it rolling after a 63-51 road win at Field

BRIMFIELD, OH- The Streetsboro Rockets looked to continue their undefeated start to the 2024/25 season Thursday night in Brimfield against the Field Falcons. The 5-0 Rockets were coming off of a 63-34 home win over Ravenna on Tuesday night. The 2-5 Falcons were looking to bounce back from a tough loss to Cloverleaf. After a slow start the Rockets were able to regroup after a big 2nd quarter and take home a 63-51 win.

Jack Batten got the Rockets started with his first of four three balls on the night to open the scoring. Streetsboro would open up a 10-4 lead early on in this one. Field turned the tides in the second half of the opening quarter. They trailed 10-9 with just over two minutes to play before Brayden Ronowski hit back to back buckets, the last of which was a three putting the Falcons up 14-10. They would end up closing the quarter on a 12-3 run giving them a 16-13 advantage after one.

The Rockets started strong in quarter two as their shots started to fall. They opened the quarter on a 10-2 run capped off by back to back three's from Batten to take a 23-18 lead. After an Alec Grimm basket for the Falcons, Batten and Janiere Cook hit consecutive shots to go up 27-20. Ben Stayer scored inside for the Falcons to cut the deficit back to five before the Rockets outscored Field 6-1 the rest of the half as Cook converted a layup off of a steal to just beat the 2nd quarter buzzer.

The Rockets took a 33-23 lead into the half. Batten scored 8 of his game high 13 points in the 2nd quarter helping the Rockets outscore the Falcons 20-7.



It was another strong start to a quarter to begin the 3rd for the Rockets as they scored the first six points with five of them coning from Charles Ivory to push the lead out to 16 at 39-23. After a Grady Eader score for the Falcons, Ethan Laryea and brother Preston Laryea scored the next five points to make it a 43-25 ballgame. Field showed some fight to end the 3rd outscoring Streetsboro 8-1 to close the quarter cutting the deficit to 44-34 heading to the 4th.

It was more Jack Batten to start the 4th as he hit his fourth three of the game to open the quarter. The Rockets would open up an 18 point lead at 56-38 midway through the 4th after a Jackson Gula drive to the hoop. Field would outscore the Rockets 13-7 the rest of the way but it was too little too late as Streetsboro prevailed 63-51.


Jack Batten led the way for the Rockets with 16 points and those four three balls. Charles Ivory finished with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Grady Eader was solid in the loss for the Falcons with 18 points and 6 rebounds.


The Rockets are back home Saturday against the Hudson Explorers while Field hosts undefeated Garfield Saturday afternoon.
