Cleveland, Ohio - On Friday night the Toledo Start Spartans came to town to face the Saint Ignatius Wildcats. Ignatius was 14-6 coming into this game while Toledo Start was 14-3.
Winning the tip was Ignatius, but they missed their first shot. After a steal, Ignatius’ Ace Buckner got a one-handed transition dunk scoring the first points of the game.
Start’s Romel Hightower rejected a dunk attempt at the rim, which caused some cheers from the visiting bench. The score was 12-8 at the end of the first after Matt Ellis hit a layup to end the quarter for Ignatius.
To start the next period, both sides were tremendous offensively. Within the first couple minutes, both sides kept scoring. However, after that the scoring plateaued for a bit.
With Reece Robinson’s hook shot, Ignatius went up by ten dominating offensively. The score at halftime was 32-18 in favor of Ignatius. Buckner had 9 points leading the way for the Wildcats.
To start the second half, Start began the third quarter with a traveling violation after which Buckner hit a mid-range jumper giving him double digit points.
Stone Edwards hit a 3-pointer for Start, giving him 19 points. However, his team was still trailing. To finish off the third, Ellis converted an and-one opportunity ending the quarter with Ignatius up 46-35.
To start the fourth quarter Ignatius went on a 7-0 run capped off by a Robinson lob. Buckner missed a dunk inside, but his team recovered the rebound and he got a layup to fall soon after.
Start kept turning the ball over which helped Ignatius go up by twenty-four points at one point. The Wildcats ran away in the fourth for a 72-41 victory.
Ace Buckner led the way for the Wildcats with 16 points. Stone Edwards was tops for Toledo with 21 points.
