St Ed's improves to 7-1 with a huge 35-15 win over Clarkson North

Lakewood Ohio– Coming off of a huge 42-7 win over St. Ignatius The St Edwards Eagles looked to take on Canada North. They got the defeat 35-15 with a huge showing from Logan Thomas.

The Eagles came out strong, establishing Brandon White with a string of carries. He gained over 35 yards on less than 5 carries which would set up a 26 yard touchdown reception from Casey Bullock to Zack Hackleman.

Canada North would get going on the ground as well. Before multiple gains from Brandon Ward, North would convert on 3rd down with a pass from Winston Chapman to Malakai Gleadall. Chapman got a few more gains with QB keepers that would set up a one yard touchdown run from Ward. With three to go in the first the score was tied 7-7.

The Eagles responded before the quarter ended. Brandon White had a couple more gains on the ground but it was a 20 yard reception on 3rd down from Kyan Mason that turned the tide of the drive. The big gain set up a Brandon White 10 yard touchdown run. The quarter ended with St Ed’s up 14-7.

The second quarter saw the Eagles turn a tide defensively. Loghan Thomas started the quarter with a huge sack on 3rd down and the offense took advantage. The Eagles first offensive drive in the quarter featured Joshua Groudle. He accounted for over 20 rushing yards during the drive. A double digit reception on 3rd down from Zach Hackleman kept the drive alive and White ran another touchdown in from 2 yards out. They led 21-7 with 5 minutes left in the half.

Thomas then made his mark again his very next time out. After a couple of gains from Chapman, Thomas was able to bring him down with another sack on third and goal. The very next play Ed’s got a field goal block to end the half up 21-7.

“I prepare hard every week, we practice hard, we practice as a team and then we come out here and execute,” said Thomas about his performance.

Coming out of halftime the defense got a big takeaway with an interception from Xavier Styles forced by Thomas. The rest of the third saw empty drives from both teams before the Eagle offense scored again. After runs from Joshua Groudle and Jacob Robinson, Brandon White found receiver Zack Hackleman for a 32 yard touchdown pass around two minutes left. The third ended with Ed’s up 28-7.

In the fourth the Eagles stayed sound on defense not giving up many big plays. The Eagle offense was able to score again around the five minute mark. A huge 17 yard 3rd down conversion for Hackleman set up another touchdown pass for Casey Bullock as he found Bryce Sulliavan on the 26 yard reception.

Canada North fought until the end as they put together a nice drive ending with a Brandon Ward two yard touchdown. The Eagles won 35-15.

When talking about Ed’s defensive end Head Coach Tom Lombardo said, “Loghan’s a special athlete.. Jon Slaper had a pretty good defensive game.. You need all hands on deck at this point.”

The Eagles will be home again October 14th 4 PM as they take on Archbishop Moeller.
