Rootstown, OH - On Saturday the Rootstown Rovers took on the Crestwood Red Devils in a double header.
Game 1:
To start the game the first inning only had one run thanks to Joe Weaver of the Rovers. Both teams went scoreless in inning number two.
However the third inning for Rootstown was phenomenal as they were able to get four runners home with three coming off the bat of Tony Karp which gave them a 5-0 lead over the Red Devils.
Unfortunately for Crestwood they would be shutout the rest of the way. Rootstown prevailed 5-0 behind stellar pitching from Bryce Harless and Brady Krietzburg as they combined for 7 scoreless innings.
Karp led the Rover attack going 3/3 with 3 RBI. Sean Boveington was 1/3 with an RBI. JP Wrobel and Landon Kuenzer each had 2 hits for the Red Devils.
All hope wasn't lost for Crestwood as the teams still had to play each other for another seven innings to complete the double header.
Game 2:
It looked as if it was bound to be another low scoring game, as the first two innings came and went without anything of note happening. Disaster struck for the Rovers in the third.
The Rovers gave up a run to start the inning but that wasn't the worst of it, as when the bases were loaded, Crestwood was able to send the ball flying, and was able to bring three runners home, bringing the score to 4-0.
Fortunately for the Rovers they were able to start fighting back, as big hits by RJ Soika, Alec Sturgil and Brady Kreitzburg were able to secure three runs for the team bringing the Rovers within a run at 4-3.
However, the Red Devils weren't willing to let the Rovers comes back, as in the seventh inning they were able to bring home another four runs and put this one way taking the win 8-3.
Wyatt Januska led the Red Devils offense going 2/4 with 4 RBI. Jonas Honeycutt and Charlie Sommer eached chipped in 2 hits and an RBI.
