Rootstown Rovers offense pounds out 21 hits in 15-2 win at Ravenna



Ravenna, OH- It was a beautiful sunny 82 degree evening at Ravenna High School where the host Ravens welcomed in the Rootstown Rovers. Madison Artz toed the rubber for Ravenna opposed by the Rovers Chloe Gardner.


Rootstown wasted no time jumping on the Ravens in the first with 5 runs. Shelbie Krieger drove in the first run with an RBI triple. That hit was followed by an RBI single from Zoe Noel, an RBI double by Kaitlyn Hammerschmidt and capped off by a 2-run HR to left center off the bat of Natalie Hammerschmidt. A 6 hit, 5 run 1st put the Rovers up 5-0. Gardner allowed a hit and a walk in the bottom half but ended a scoreless 1st on a strikeout.



After batting around in the 1st, the Rovers struck for 3 more runs in the top of the 2nd. After Reise Thomas had her second straight lead-off single, Abby White brought her home with a double. Krieger followed that up with her second triple in as many innings scoring White. The final run came home on an infield error. Gardner put up another scoreless frame allowing a pair of singles to Angelina Fuller and Shyanna Dillbeck but no runs. Rootstown led 8-0 after two.



The top of the 3rd was another banger for the Rovers as they brought across 4 more runs. Abby White and pinch hitter Savannah Adkins each ripped RBI singles before Kaitlyn Hammerschmidt brought home two more with a single of her own. Gardner recorded her first 1-2-3 inning in the bottom half and the Rovers lead grew to 12-0.



Rootstown continued their relentless offense with another pair of runs in the top of the 4th on an RBI double by Thomas and another RBI single from Adkins. In the bottom half the Ravens were finally able to break through against Gardner. Jocelyn Impiccini smacked a bases loaded single driving in the first 2 Ravens runs of the game. After four it was 14-2 in favor of the Rovers.



The Rovers put up one more run in the top of the 5th on an RBI single by Grace Luli, her fourth hit of the game. The Ravens got a single in the bottom half by Morgan Decker, but Gardner was able to retire Madison Artz on a fly ball to end the game on the 10-run rule. Rootstown took this one 15-2.

Natalie Hammerschmidt: 1/4, HR, 2 RBI


The Ravens were led by Morgan Decker and Angelina Fuller who each chipped in 2 hits and Jocelyn Impiccini's 2 RBI's.
