Purple Raiders pitch 76-0 shutout of Comets ; improve to 6-0

Alliance OH- The (5-0, 4-0 OAC) Mount Union Purple Raiders hosted the (1-4, 1-3 OAC) Capital Comets.


1Q

A sweep to Rayshaun Williams earned 16 yards on the first play. Braxton Plunk found Willaims for a gain of 22 into Comet territory. Tyler Echeverry picked up 17 yards for a first down inside the 5. Echeverry takes the handoff for the one-yard plunge for the score as Mount takes a quick 7-0 lead.

Capital was forced to punt as Rayshaun Williams took it to the house from 71 yards away giving the Purple Raiders a 14-0 lead. The Comets then punted, and just a few plays later Darnell Williams took off for the 48-yard dash to the end zone.

Duke Hill's sack on first down sets up another Comet punt. Plunk found Nick Turner for a 44 yard gain. At the 5 yard line Plunk found TE Chase Lawson for the score. The Purple Raiders jumped to a 28-0 lead to end the first quarter over the Capital Comets.


2Q

Comets punt to midfield, next snap is a handoff to Darnell Williams who hits paydirt on the 50 yard scamper. Mount led 35-0 early in the 2nd. Another Capital punt set up a record breaking play. Braxton Plunk found Wayne Ruby Jr. for the 39 yard score giving Ruby the All-Time record for receiving touchdowns (64).

Mount forces another 3 & out and begins from their own 49. Plunk connected with Echeverry for a gain of 18 and Darnell Williams picked up 7 to set up a Plunk to Ryan Eiden touchdown pass.

The Purple Raider defense limited the Comet offense to one yard on 27 plays. The defense forced another punt and with a minute left in the half Jackson Akins finds Drew Sims for the 24 yard score as the Mount Union went into the locker room up 56-0.



3Q

The Purple Raider defense continues to be stout, forcing a 3&out. Jackson Akins found Drew Sims for a gain of 36 yards. With the ball at the 4 Jackson Akins keeps on the read-option for the score to give Mount Union a 63-0 lead with 9:44 in the 3rd.

Donovan Duncan finds Bennett Zirby for a pick up of 13 on their first play for scrimmage for the Comets first first down of the game. Mount forces 3 & out and begin offense from the 27. First play goes 72 yards on a pass from Akins to Jose Brazoban for the score as Mount leads 70-0. Mount forces a punt and TJ Deshields takes over for Akins. Eiden takes the handoff for a big run of 22 yards. Malcolm Rodgers picks up 14 yards between two rushes to set up 1st &10 from the 13. Deaglan Camron comes on and drills a 30-yard field goal to put Mount Union up 73-0.

Kassim Johnson picked up 13 yards on the ground for the final play of the quarter. Mount led 73-0.


4Q

Kassim Johnson gets the Comets into Purple Raider territory on a gain of 11, down to the Mount 40 yard line. In the end, Mount forces a turnover on downs as they begin from their own 37. Donovan Pawlowski finds Robert Jordan for a gain of 16 yards down into Comet territory at the 44. Kambden Wesley picks up 14 yards down to the Comet 6. Carmron attempts a 23 yarder, that he drills for a 76-0 lead.

The Mount Union Purple Raiders go onto win 76-0, improving to 6-0 on the season and 5-0 in OAC play.
