Painesville Harvey takes down Crestwood 56-14

Mantua, OH- The Crestwood Red Devils and Harvey Red Raiders both came into this game at 1-2 on the season looking to get to the .500 mark. The Red Devils were coming off of a 40-7 loss to Chippewa while the Red Raiders secured their first win of the season with a 49-0 win over Wickliffe.

Crestwood received the opening kickoff but were held on 3rd down after a sack of QB Charlie Sommer by Harvey LB Amarey Bouldin. After a Red Devil punt the Red Raiders took over on the Crestwood 46 yard line. It only took 3 plays before RB Blaise Collins took it in from 26 yards out. Antonio Soto Rodriguez converted the PAT and Harvey lead 7-0.

The Red Raiders were setup nicely for the next possession as Davon Badley returned the punt 29 yards to the Crestwood 35 yard line. Harvey RB Blaise Collins rand the ball the first 5 plays for 32 yards down to the Red Devil 2 yard line. From there QB Cavon Wise found Shahn Alston for a quick hit touchdown pass. Rodriguez converted the PAT and Harvey lead 14-0.

The Harvey defense stepped up again on Crestwood's next possession as Badley intercepted Red Devil QB Charlie Sommer at the 35 yard line. Three plays later Alston converted his second touchdown of the half with an 11 yard run. Rodriguez PAT was good and it was quickly 21-0.

Crestwood would again turn the ball back over to Harvey this time on downs as they could not convert a 4th and 8 as Nate Blasiole was stuffed for a 2 yard loss. The very next play Wise found Badley down the sideline for a 52 yard touchdown strike. Rodriguez hit his 3rd PAT giving the Red Raiders a 28-0 lead.

The Red Devils would go for it on fourth down once again their next possession. On 4th and 2 Sommer's pas fell incomplete and once again a turnover on downs for Crestwood. From there Blaise Collins imposed his will carrying the ball 3 times for 42 yards on the drive the last of which was a 29 yard touchdown. Another successful PAT made it 35-0 with just over a minute to play in the half.

Nate Blasiole returned the ensuing kickoff 65 yards to the Harvey 38 yard line setting up Crestwood with their best field position of the night. Unfortunately Sommer was picked off for the 2nd time in the first half and the Red Devils went into halftime trailing 35-0.

The second half began with a bang for Harvey as RB Shahn Alston took the handoff to the house 65 yards on the first play of the half. Rodriguez converted his 6th PAT giving the Red Raiders a 42-0 lead.

After a Crestwood three and out forced a punt, one of the more bizarre scoring plays took place for Harvey. Badley returned the punt into Red Devil territory and it appeared he might go the distance, but he fumbled at the 30 yard line. From there Collins scooped up the fumble and took it in for the touchdown. It was all the proof you needed to see that everything was going right for Harvey. The PAT made it 49-0 with 8:14 to play in the 3rd quarter.

Crestwood was forced to punt again after Davon Badley sacked Sommer for an 8 yard loss on 3rd and 7. After the punt was downed at the 14 yard line, the very next play Red Raider senior RB Kaleb Puckett rumbled 86 yards to the house for their 8th touchdown of the game. Rodriguez was perfect on all 8 PAT attempts and it was now a 56-0 rout with just under 4 minutes to play in the 3rd quarter.

Crestwood finally got on the board to start the 4th quarter as Sommer found Jayden Julian for an 18 yard touchdown pass. The PAT was good making the score 56-7 in favor of Harvey.

After holding Harvey to a three and out the Red Devils moved down to the Red Raider 1 yard line on some nice running by Blasiole and Tristen Addis who plunged in from a yard out for Crestwood's second straight touchdown. The PAT was good making it a 56-14 game with 3:17 to play. That would end up being the final score as Harvey ran out the clock on the last possession.

It was a tough matchup for the young Red Devils against a bigger and more physical Red Raiders squad. Harvey moves to 2-2 on the season and head home to face Middlefield Cardinal next week. Crestwood falls to 1-3 and will travel to Beachwood.
