Rocky River, Ohio - On Wednesday afternoon John Hay High School and Padua faced off in a consolation game of the Rocky River Holiday Classic. Padua lost on Tuesday to Avon Lake while John Hay lost to Rocky River.
Winning the tip was John Hay but they missed their first shot. Jesse Hayes almost made a reverse dunk but missed for John Hay. Christian Camargo hit the first shot of the game, a layup inside. Isaiah Paoletto hit the first shot for Padua, a floater on the right wing.
Riley Cervenka then hit a triple on the right side as well for Padua, giving them the lead. Lazarus Barbour also hit a 3-pointer, in the left corner for John Hay. Hayes blocked a shot, pinning it on the backboard. The score at the end of the first was 22-12 in favor of Padua.
To start the second quarter, Gio Roman hit a floater that rolled around the rim for a bit but then fell in. Hayes blocked another shot, after John Hay ran in transition. Kysean Palmore blocked a shot inside and then Donta Dadget scored for John Hay in transition. Camargo shot two free throws after a technical foul was called on Padua, but missed both. The score at halftime was 39-20 Padua with Riley Cervenka leading the way with 13 points.
To start the third quarter George Gonet hit a layup inside giving Padua the first points of the half. Caden Fyock tipped the ball in for Padua, after missing the first two shots. Hayes later hit an and-one after a nice pass inside. Fyock hit another layup, giving Padua a 9-0 run to start the third.
Cervenka hit a layup, then stole the ball for another layup inside. Dadget finally scored for John Hay, after five minutes through the quarter. Dadget hit a triple on the left wing, trying to build John Hay’s momentum. The score was 59-28 with Padua in the lead at the end of the third.
To start the final period, Hayes took the ball inside, and scored easily in the lane. Gianni Cario made a triple on the left wing after an inbounds pass for Padua. He made another triple in transition causing the game have a running clock. Padua took the win 74-35. Cervenka led scoring with 17 for Padua.
