Olmsted Falls’ explosive runs helps them advance to D2 state semifinal after their 63-48 win over Green

Medina, Ohio-  The Olmsted Falls Bulldogs (21-5) and the Green Lady Bulldogs (20-5) traveled to Medina High School for their Division II Regional Final matchup. The Bulldogs’ explosive runs helped  them advance to the state semifinal. Emma Schaefer spoke after the win.  


“We knew they were going to be a physical and aggressive defensive team. So we just had to stay composed..I look up to my teammates, they keep me composed in game time situations,” said Schaefer.

Olmsted opened the game looking to press as both teams looked to get inside. The Bulldogs took control of the quarter with a 7-0 run near the halfway point. Schaefer, Grace Largent and Jesse Simon all scored during the run. They led 10-6 with two minutes to go. Green was able to close the lead to 14-12 at the buzzer with a layup from Armahni Wagler.


Olmsted came out in the second scorching hot from three. They started with a 9-0 run where Simon, Schaefer and Avery DeLisio knocked down threes.  They led 23-14 two minutes in.


Jenna Slates couldn’t be stopped, she scored nine in the quarter. She scored back to back buckets in the lane around three minutes left, Green trailed 26-20.


Green gained a lot of momentum going into the half. Right before the buzzer Slates knocked down a one handed heave from the opposite foul line. Green went into the half down 29-27. Slates ended with 17 at the half.



The game started to slow down for both teams in the third. Olmsted got a huge spark off the bench from Addison Mullen. She hit a three pointer right when the offense hit a cold patch. Olmsted led 36-29 with four minutes to go.


Wagler answered with consecutive drives to the basket. DeLisio came right back with a three point make. Olmsted led 41-33 with 2:30 to go in the quarter. Olmsted went into the fourth leading  45-33.


Green came out and kept fighting, Slates scored a strong bucket down low and Meredith Viar followed up with a three. Green trailed 45-38 going into a timeout.


Slates came out of the timeout converting an and one layup prompting MVP chants. DeLisio answered with another timely three pointer. She extended the lead to 48-40 with five minutes to go.


After a few possessions the Bulldogs led 50-40 at the 4:24 mark. Buckets from Simon and DeLisio extended the lead to 54-43.


After a couple of minutes Schaefer scored a breakaway layup during an inbound to push the lead to 56-45 with 1:38 to go. Simon and Maddie Cerovac followed up with layups of their own. Olmsted ended on top 63-48.


The Bulldogs will be back in action March 9. The time, opponent and place is still to be determined.
