Ohio State Hoops Week 8 Recap: A Blizzard Can't Stop the Buckeyes

2022 Ohio State University

There wasn't much action to recap this week for both the men and women teams on the hardwood, as they both went on a holiday hiatus before they begin prep for the New Year and conference play. The ladies of the Scarlet and Gray did begin their conference slate of games Wednesday night (December 28th) in front of over 1,000 people in Evanston, Illinois, as they took on Northwestern. The Wildcats came in with a 6-5 record, trying to hold off the undefeated No. 3 team in the nation in Ohio State and were only able to stick around for one quarter of play before the Buckeyes became too much to handle.

Ohio State won 81-48 to pick up win No. 14 on the season and their third in conference play. Cotie McMahon and Taylor Mikesell both took home Player of the Game honors, as they stuffed the stat sheet against a far inferior opponent. McMahon totaled a game high 24 points while also collecting four rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks. Mikesell didn't quite have the same success scoring, but she did finish with 16 points in all, but it was her other stats that painted the picture, as she nearly had herself a triple-double with nine rebounds and seven steals on the night.

The Buckeyes will look to stay perfect in the 2022 half of the season as they will be in action on New Years Eve at 1 p.m. as they play host to their rivals from the north on the Big Ten Network. TTUN comes in ranked No. 14 and should give the Buckeyes one of their hardest conference battles this season. They will then begin 2023 on the road when they take on the 8-5 Minnesota Golden Gophers on January 5th at 8 p.m.

Ohio State men's basketball will be back in action December 29th at 8 p.m., as they take on 4-8 Alabama A&M at home on the Big Ten Network. They will start off 2023 on New Years Day when they open their conference slate on the road against Northwestern at 7:30 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.

A busy week continues for the men, as the Buckeyes will face their biggest test of the season as they go up against the No. 1 team in the nation in Purdue on January 5th at 7 p.m. on FS1 in front of their home crowd in Value City Arena.
