Ohio State Football September Player of the Month

Tommy Eichenberg is the Believeland Buckeye September player of the month. He is on pace to more than double his numbers from last season and has been by far the best player on the new revamped defense. He has double the amount of solo tackles than any other player on the Buckeyes and ranks in the Top 50 in the nation for tackles for loss. The turnaround of the defense this season has been centered around Tommy Eichenberg.

Fans have been hoping for the linebacking unit to finally go back to the dominant levels it was at under Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer. Eichenberg has given the Buckeyes hope that their linebacker dominance is back. As the season moves forward, the Silver Bullets will continue to look towards their leader to continue their great defensive play inside the Big Ten Conference. He was left off the Dick Butkus Award (linebacker of the year) pre-season watchlists, but his performance so far has gained him a lot of attention and has moved him into the conversation to take home the award this offseason.

Stats:

Solo Tackles - 20

Assisted - 13

Total - 33

Sacks - 2

Tackled for Loss - 5

Honorable Mentions:

  • C.J. Stroud - Heisman frontrunner, 1,222 yards, 70.5%, 16 TDs, 1 INT, playing phenomenally without his No. 1 wide-receiver and a struggling offensive line.

  • Emeka Egbuka - Leading wide-receiver, 442 yards, 26 receptions, 17 yards-per-reception, 5 TDs, stepped up with Jaxon Smith-Njigba out.
