Barberton, OH - On Tuesday night at Barberton High School, the Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy Royals took on the Canal Fulton Northwest Indians in a Division 2 / Region 5 Regional semi-final matchup.
Starting the first quarter, the Lady Royals were able to make a quick statement as Joi Williams knocked down a three pointer right away and then the team followed suit. Gia Casalinova and Kylie Bettinger, were able to drain a pair of their own three pointers.
The Lady Indians also started the game with a quick three and five points of their own from senior Ashley Cudnik, but it wasn't enough as the Lady Royals kept their lead 9-5 after one.
Entering the second quarter the Royals were looking to extend their lead, and that's exactly what they did as Katelyn Harabedian was able to knock down back-to-back three pointers, and her teammate Bettinger also drained another three pointer.
The Lady Indians weren't able to stop the three point attack from the Lady Royals, but they were able to make some points of their own as Cudnik was able to score again. It wasn't enough as the Lady Royals went into halftime with the lead 18-11.
Coming out of the locker rooms the Lady Royals were looking to make a splash. Offensively they didn't look like the same team, only putting up five points this quarter mainly because of a three from Williams.
On the other side of the ball the Lady Indians were looking better offensively as they were able to put up eight points, five of which came from center Lily Bottomley as they cut the lead down to four points at 23-19.
In the fourth quarter the Lady Indians really took it to the Royals were playing tough perimeter defense not allowing CVCA to shoot the three point shots they wanted. They were only able to score four points in the fourth quarter, while the Lady Indians attacked the basket at every opportunity and put up 11 points which completed their comeback win 30-27.
Northwest Canal Fulton moves on to face Canfield on Friday at Barberton.
