Murray´s homer, Hendricks 7K´s gives Hilltoppers 11-1 Season Finale win over Bombers



Munson OH- The Kenston Bombers (6-10) visited WRC opponent Chardon Hilltoppers (20-6) in the conclusion of their season series.


Jenna Hendricks earned the start for Chardon. After two quick outs including her first strikeout of the night, Angela Kale and Colette LaSalvia both collect base hits to put a pair of runners on for the Bombers. Maria Cowoski struck out swinging as Hendricks worked out of a jam in the 1st.



An array of six consecutive hits quickly gave Chardon an early lead. Grace Legan singled and stole 2nd. She would score on a single from Sidney Nagaj. Nagaj stole 2nd and advanced to 3rd on a passed ball. She would try to score on another passed ball but was tagged out on a bang-bang play at the plate. Amy O´Brien quickly put another Hilltopper on 3rd though, her 1-out triple gave Sarah Sutton an RBI opportunity. Sutton comes through with a double. The third straight extra-base hit for Chardon comes from Madison Zombory on an RBI double. Sydney Murray kept the hit-train rolling with a single to center as Zombory scores to make it 4-0 Chardon. Jadyn Tarantina drew a walk, both runners advanced into scoring position for Josie LoCoco who brings Murray across on a sacrifice fly. Mackenzie Kilpeck grounded out to Devan McCabe who tossed to Angela Kale at first base to end the inning.



A leadoff single from Madison Schmoldt got the Bombers started. Katie Lustig struckout looking as Raegan Timmons grounded into a Hilltopper double play. The Hilltoppers went quietly in the 2nd, being retired in order by the Bomber defense for all three outs.



Aurora Young leads off with a single for Kenston. But Hendricks responded by striking out Sophia Cartellone and Devan McCabe. Angela Kale grounded out to end the 3rd for the Bombers. A three-run bottom of the 3rd gave Chardon an 8-0 lead. Zombory, Murray and Tarantino all reached with one out. Bases loaded for LoCoco, as her sharp line drive single right at first baseman Angela Kale allowed Zombory to score. Kilpeck earned another RBI with a sacrifice fly to bring home their 2nd run of the inning. Grace Legan would deliver the final base hit of the inning with an RBI single to make it 8-0 Chardon. Cartellone would catch Nagaj´s infield fly to end the inning.



After Colette LaSalvia´s fly out, Maria Cowoski was hit by a pitch. With two outs, Lustig earned a walk to give the Bombers a scoring chance. Timmons nearly picked up an RBI but a leaping catch by second baseman Grace Legan ended the frame. O´Brien´s leadoff walk and Zombory´s one out single set up Murray with runners on first and second. Murray hit a fly ball to left that cleared the fence for her 5th home run of the season. The Bomber defense recorded the final two outs to end the 4th.


Kenston would get on the board in the 5th. Before the run was scored both Young and Cartellone struck out swinging. McCabe would single and would come around to score on an RBI double from Kale. LaSalvia flied out to end the game.



The Chardon Hilltoppers played their final game of the year at home, finishing with an outstanding record of 21-6. Their bats were hot, scoring three or more runs in the 1st, 3rd and 4th innings. Their offense was lead by Grace Legan, Madison Zombory and Sydney Murray all having mult-hit games. Grace Legan, Sidney Nagaj, Sarah Sutton, Madison Zombory, Sydney Murray and Josie LoCoco all collected RBIs in the win.

Jenna Hendricks earned the win in the Hilltoppers final game. She worked five innings, allowed six hits with a run and walk, but struck out seven Bombers.

Angela Kale, Colette LaSalvia, Devan McCabe, Aurora Young and Madison Schmoldt all picked up hits for the Bombers. Angela Kale´s RBI double would be the only run-scoring play for Kenston.

Devan McCabe took the loss for Kenston, going four innings while allowing eleven hits paired with eight earned runs and a pair of walks.
