Murray´s gem, Hiltoppers high powered offense soar over the Bombers 23-1



Chagrin Falls, OH- The visiting Chardon Hilltoppers (18-4) made their way to face the Kenston Bombers (6-8) in a WRC Conference matchup.


The Hilltopper offense would quickly jump in front in the 1st, and never look back. To get it started, Grace Legan layed down a bunt, reaching 1st without a throw. Sideny Nagaj got a chance with a runner in scoring position once Legan stole 2nd. Nagaj made it safely to 1st on an error, which allowed Legan to score. Amy O´Brien quickly followed with an run-scoring double to right. Sarah Sutton and Madison Zombory became the first pair of outs recorded. A wild pitch in Sydney Murray´s at-bat allowed O´Brien to score, putting Chardon up 3-0.



Murray struck out, moving the game into the bottom of the 1st. The Bomber offense was held in check by Murray as she struck out Sophia Cartellone, but allowed a walk to Devan McCabe. She would not advance past 1st as Angela Kale and Colette LaSalvia both put the ball in play, both resulting in outs.


A bounce-back Inning for the Bombers, setting the Hilltoppers down 1-2-3. Murray responded with a 1-2-3 Inning of her own, striking out Katie Lustig and Maria Cowoski.



The Bombers recorded a quick first out to start the 3rd. Nagaj collected her 2nd hit and after O´Briens fly out the offense began to heat up again. Sutton earned a walk. Nagaj came across to score on a wild pitch with Sutton reaching 2nd. Zombory scored Sutton with a single, giving the Hilltoppers a 5-0 lead. Sydney Murray picked up her 1st home run on the season with her two-run homer in the 3rd. Morgan O´Leary was retired on a pop out to 2nd. Another efficient inning for the Hilltoppers with Murray earned another strikeout, as the defense behind recorded the final outs of the frame.


Chardon added 3 more runs in the 4th. With a runner on 3rd after Riley Ford´s ground out, Nagaj and O´Brien went back-to-back with RBI singles before Sutton doubled to left scoring O´Brien. McCabe was able to get Zombory out, fielding the groundball and throwing her out.



McCabe was retired, but Angela Kale put Kenston on the board with a solo-home run in the 4th. After LaSalvia´s infield fly out, Katie Lustig became Murray´s 2nd walk of the night. She made up for it by striking out Aurora Young to end the inning.


With Kenston getting on the board off a home run, the Hilltoppers responded in a colossal way, putting 13 runs on the board in the 5th. Sydney and Savanah Murray opened the inning with consecutive singles and both would score on Kilpecks double to left. Emma Anderson advanced Kilpeck to 3rd with a single of her own. Grace Legan continued the inning with a two-run double, making it 14-1. Nagaj and O´Brien both picked up RBIs with a double and single respectively. Sarah Sutton earned a four pitch walk. Zombory followed up by reaching 1st on an error, giving O´Brien the opportunity to score. Sydney Murray became the 2nd walk of the inning. Madison O´Leary was struck out, but the bases were loaded as Kilpeck was walked. Jaydn Tarantino reached on a fielders choice, Zombory scored and Murray was out advancing to 3rd. Grace Legan earned the free pass to first, as Nagaj and O´Brien both double bringing 3 more runs across the plate. Sutton would be the last out, as the Hilltoppers lead was now 23-1.



Syndey Murray thrived in the bottom of the 5th, striking out the side to end it.

The Hilltopper offense backed her up all night long, collecting 17 hits and 23 runs. Chardon was led by Grace Legan, Sidney Nagaj, Amy O´Brien and Sydney Murray. Madison Kilpeck contributed 3 RBIs to boot.

Devan McCabe was ambushed early by Chardon, going four innings and surrendering 15 hits, 12 earned runs with a walk while striking out 1. Katie Lustig came in for relief, allowed 2 hits with an earned run, walked 4 and also struck out 1.

The Bomber offense was silent throughout with Angela Kale´ś solo home run being the lone run for the Bombers. McCabe and Lustig both drew walks as the other base runners in the game.
