Gates Mills, Ohio - On Thursday night the Magnificat Blue Streaks went up against the girl’s Gilmour Academy Lancers. For Magnificat they were 13-3 heading into this game while Gilmour was 12-1.
To start the game off Nicci Finazzo hit a layup inside, giving Gilmour the first points of the game. However Magnificat went on a 7-0 run after this and kept pushing the momentum.
Sofia Wilson kept riding the hot streak for Magnificat, hitting a step-back 3-pointer. At the end of the first quarter the score was 13-6 with Magnificat leading.
To start the second quarter, Gilmour hit two layups back-to-back, cutting the Blue Streaks lead to three. Finazzo hit an amazing layup after a spin move that got her defender lost. Helen Holley got a put back layup to fall, and tied the game for Gilmour at 16 a piece which was the score at the half.
To start the second half Holley hit a mid-range jumper and a layup for Gilmour as they took the lead. The game in this quarter was very close with no team taking a sizable lead. The score was 31-27 Magnificat at the end of the third.
To start the fourth quarter Finazzo hit a 3-pointer after Gilmour got an offensive rebound and cut the Magnificat lead to one. Holley kept grabbing offensive rebounds, and eventually got fouled on a layup.
Julia Hall was able to score a layup for Magnificat, right after she faked a pass to be able to get inside. The Blue Streaks eventually went up by ten and maintained their lead the rest of the quarter. Magnificat took this one 54-44.
Leading the way for Gilmour was Helen Holley with 22. Magnificat was led by Katie Maryo with 14 points.
