Hunting Valley, Ohio- The University Preppers (9-4) hosted the Lutheran West Longhorns (10-4). Lutheran West won their matchup last year 77-55. This time, a huge fourth quarter onslaught helped them get the victory.

Head Coach for Lutheran West Jordan Duke spoke about the win.

“We played a lot of guys tonight..we were able to stay attention to detail in the game plan that we had and I think we wore them down with our guys,” said Duke.

The Preppers brought the intensity from the jump with their press. They forced four turnovers in the first quarter.

The Preppers got to the rim in the half court with penetration from Joshua Belcher and Alec Congdon. Congdon’s floater around the two minute mark extended their lead to 17-9.

The Longhorns took their first lead of the game with thirty seconds left in the period. They went on a 9-0 run which included threes from Matt Meyer and Jakaris Shelton.  The quarter ended with a stepback three at the buzzer from Tylar Robinson. University led 20-19.

The Longhorns lived in the key during the second, they looked for as many transition opportunities as they could. Ryan Calo got the assist on a fast break for an and-one layup. They led 27-24 with 4:45 to go.

The Preppers fought back as Robinson and Congdon kept the offense rolling for them. They closed the half leading 35-32.

In the third Lutheran West started to establish themselves in the half court. Calo put them up 41-38 after cutting to the rim for a score. Five minutes remained.
