Lake shuts out Hoover 28-0 to advance in OHSAA playoffs

Updated: Nov 4

On a windy and cold fall night in Uniontown it was time for Playoff football! Huge game with huge implications on line where it was win or go home between huge Federal league rivals with the #10 seed Hoover Vikings taking hitting road to play the #7 seed Lake Blue Streaks. These 2 teams met just two weeks ago in a great game where the Hoover Vikings pulled out a close win with a walk off field goal, so we knew this game had a good chance to be a good one.

The story coming into this one would be how can each team's offense help their quarterback. Both the Vikings and the Blue streaks starting quarterbacks would be out for this one so it would be up to the backups. For the Vikings it would be John Collins who has been the starter for the Majority of the season after Zac Braucher went down in the early going of the 2024 Campaign. On the other side of things for the Blue Streaks Alex Quior who was the Starter all year was ruled out for the game with an injury, so they would turn to sophomore Ty Degeorge.

The first quarter would be a battle of the defenses. No team's offense could seem to get anything going in the opening quarter as it would end tied 0-0. Lake defensive back Ethan Hunt would have a night as he would record his first pick of the night in the red zone to save a score. The interception was thrown by Hoover wide receiver Jack Andeson a trick play. Luckily for the Vikings the Blue Streaks struggled to get anything going on the offensive side of things in the first quarter, but that would change in the 2nd.

The second quarter would start off with a bang for the Blue Streaks. As the Vikings were threatening with a drive filled with momentum led by John Collins, but he would have a huge mistake on that drive throwing another interception landing in the hands of a familiar face, Ethan Hunt. Hunt would have his 2nd interception of the night which gave the Blue Streaks the fuel they needed. On the next offensive drive for Lake they would waste no time getting on the scoreboard. Junior Davis Matson would hit the jets and find his way into the end zone to put the Blue Streaks up 7-0 in this one.

Matson played a huge role in the Blue streaks win with 120 Yards on 21 carries. Hoover would get the chance to get on the board, but a rough night for the passing game would result in another interception by Vikings Quarterback John Collins who had a tough night slinging it. Lake would take over with great field position and would put the ball in the hands of their best player, Charlie Christopher, who punched his first touchdown of the night into the end zone to go up 14-0. The Blue Streaks would end up taking that lead into Halftime.

The Blue Streaks and Charlie Christopher would waste little time keeping their foot on the gas. Lake marched right down the field and gave it to old reliable Charlie Christopher, the talented 4th year running back and linebacker who would break a couple tackles and find a hole through that talented Lake offensive line who played one of the biggest roles in the win. Christopher found his way into the end zone again to make it a 21-0 ballgame in the 3rd.

The Vikings had to get something going and get it going fast. Charlie Christopher the man of the night, would get in on the fun on the defensive side of things joining Ethan Hunt in the interception category. He would pick off John Collins and give the ball back to his squad. This would be Collins 3rd pick of the night and Hoovers 4th overall.

The 4th quarter would roll around and the Blue Streaks had this one pretty much locked down, you can never be too comfortable especially in the playoffs. Charlie Christopher yet again would be the man to put this one out of reach. He broke free on a huge run that would propel him into the end zone and make it a 28-0 Blue Streaks lead. The Blue Streaks took the win 28-0 over the Hoover Vikings in the Federal League rematch.

The Story to this one for the Vikings was the turnovers and the inability to score. For the Blue streaks the big pieces in their win were the Defense coming up with huge stops, the offense lines ability to block and of course Charlie Christopher. Christopher had an Interception and 3 touchdowns on the night and was the main reason why they are moving on to round 2. The Blue Streaks will have an extremely tough matchup next week as they will hit the road to play the #2 seed Archbishop Hoban Knights.
