BAINDBRIDGE OH- The Kenston Bombers volleyball team had a stellar 21-5 season, improving on their 17-7 record just one year earlier. Purdue Fort Wayne commit and senior Riley Roscneck led the team in kills with a whopping 356. Rosneck had 20+ kills in 5 matches, with her career high performance of 27 kills in a 5 set loss to Marlington in the Regional Semi-Finals. Rosneck was followed up by fellow senior Peyeton Pampush with 182 kills, with her season high of 15 coming against Willoughby South. Rosneck finished 2nd on the team in aces with 24. Janie Kerchenski lead the team in aces with 25, and ended up finishing 2nd to her twin sister Lindy Kerchenski (456 assists) with 405. A bright future is on the docket for the Bombers.
Despite being senior heavy, there were a flurry of sophomores and juniors contributed in big ways. Avari Amstutz (sophomore) finished 3rd in kills (161) and junior Sadie Poudevigne finished with 143. Emma Hart had to work her way into the rotation, but once being inserted into the lineup full time she became another weapon for Christian Jolley's offensive attack. She notched a season-high 7 kills in a tournament sweep of West Branch, where she added 4 total blocks as well. Her season high for blocks was 8 in a 3-1 win against Eastlake North. The aforementioned Poudevigne collected double-digit kills 3 times. Finishing with 12 against Riverside and 11 twice (Mentor/Kirtland). Raegan Timmons and Raygynn Pampush made the most of their limited play time. Timmons ended her season with 27 kills in 24 sets. Her season high of kills was 5 in one set on 8 attempts in a sweep of Streetsboro. Timmons once lead the defensive attack with 8 blocks against Riverside on the 28th of September. As for Raygynn, she wrapped up the season with 41 kills and 7 kills twice (Shaker Heights/Lakewood) in only 31 sets of play.
With the both of them being only sophomores to go along with Amstutz, the future of the Kenston hitters has the potential to live up the graduates of Peyeton and Riley. The versatility of the Kenston offensive attack lead to sweeps of Streetsboro, West Branch and Aurora in the tournament. Jolley and the Bombers fell in a 5 set loss to Marlington to end their 2023 season. But with 3 straight trips to the Regional Semi-Final it seems as though the Bombers time is soon to come for a Regional Championship.
