Jackson wins big at Perry 31-13

On a rainy and windy week 6 of the high school football season the Jackson Polar Bears (2-3) traveled to Wakefield stadium to take on Perry Panthers (3-2). This would be the second Federal league matchup of the season for the Polar Bears as they lost last week to the Green Bulldogs. It was the 3rd Federal league matchup for the Perry Panthers who came into this game 1-1 on the year in Federal league play after losing the previous week to Mckinley but taking a home win against the Lake Blue Streaks in week 4.

After a 7:00 pm kickoff at Perry High School neither team wasn't able to get anything started on their first drive, but the Panthers would strike first on their second drive of the night. Perry would reach the endzone on a 20+ yard pass from Quarterback Austin Mattox that found utility man Kyson Walker in the endzone for a huge touchdown. Walker, who has been the focal point in the Panthers offense, has been doing everything for Perry all season long playing Wide Receiver, Running Back, Kick Returner and CornerBack. There was not much action the rest of the first from either side but that wouldn't be the case throughout the second quarter.

Once the second quarter started the Polar Bears caught fire and didn't look back. They started the quarter off with a 15+ yard screen pass from Quarterback Lucas Ecrement that connected with Junior Max Cowles for a Jackson Touchdown. It wouldn't be long before Max saw the endzone again. Later in the 2nd Quarter Max Cowles had another screen pass thrown to him and took it all the way down into the endzone again where he had to dive at the pylon to punch it in for the Polar Bears. The Ecrement to Cowles connection made it a 14-7 Polar Bears lead. That would be the score going into halftime.

To start the second half neither team had an answer to the other's defense. The Panthers could not capitalize when they needed to as well. In the middle of the 3rd Quarter Austin Mattox took a shot from the Polar Bears 40 yard line down to their 10 yard line to Tight End Dom Scott. Mattox, who threw a perfect ball to Scott,  ended up hitting him right in the face mask and couldn't haul it in. The Polar Bears would end up with the football on their own 10 yard line. 4th year senior running back Kristian Satterfield had a 90 yard carry to the house that would put the Polar Bears up 21-7. Jackson would put together another strong drive at the end of the quarter that would get to the 10, but wouldn't be able to punch it in. They would turn to Junior kicker Cooper Mizeur to extend the lead to 24-7 after a field goal to end the 3rd.

Each side would put up a touchdown in the 4th. The Panthers would punch one in with junior running back Connor Shepard that would make the game 24-13 early in the 4th. Perry still had life so they went with an onside kick that they would recover but wouldn't be able to capitalize on that. The Polar Bears would march down the field yet again for another touchdown late in the 4th to put the game away and make the score 31-13 which would end up the final score from Perry High School. Both the Panthers and Polar Bears would move to 3-3 on the season with 4 weeks left to go in the regular season. Perry will travel to Austintown Fitch for a very tough matchup for the Panthers as Jackon will head back home to play another very tough federal league opponent in the Lake Blue Streaks.
