Maple, Ohio- Maple Heights Stadium was the scene for this 3rd round playoff matchup. Both high scoring teams Perry and Garfield came into this high stakes game at 12-0. Perry walked out still undefeated.
The Pirates came out and made their mark early. After a series of gains on the ground from Jayden Studio, Owen McKoon scored a 3 yard touchdown.
The Pirate defense held Garfield scoreless in the quarter. Brayden Richards had multiple 50 yard plus returns.
One set up a three yard touchdown for Studio. The other set up a 12 yard touchdown catch from McKoon to start the 2nd.
There were 2 interceptions in the quarter. One came from Perry’s Armani Chiappone and the other from Garfield’s Brandyn Bogucki.
Perry took advantage instantly with a 63 yard touchdown run from Studio.
The G-MEN took advantage of their turnover with a Keegan Sells five yard touchdown catch to end the half.
The second half was one sided, Garfield just struggled to get going offensively. They came out in the third giving up an interception to Perry’s secondary. Perry capitalized with a 12 yard touchdown. The quarter ended with Perry up 35-7.
In the fourth McKoon made another huge play with a fumble recovery around eight minutes left. Studio instantly capitalized with a 50 yard plus touchdown run. Keegan Sell scored a red zone touchdown before the game ended. Perry came out on top 42-14.
When asked about the turnovers created tonight McKoon said, “We just wanted it more.. we were ready, we had a game plan… we found their tendencies and then just attacked them.”
I got the chance to speak with Bob Gecewich, Head Football Coach for Perry as he talked about the win.
“I think our guys lined up and kept playing … I think that’s the most impressive thing with our kids is they make guys work”
Jayden Studio led the way for Perry with 200 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns. Keegan Sell had 113 yards and 2 touchdowns (1 rush & 1 rec) for the G-MEN.
Perry will be in action again South Range November 17th 7PM . The location is TBA.
