Guarding the Farm: Week 3

This past week in Guardians affiliate land was filled with big home runs and solid pitching performances! It also marked the return of a top prospect from injury and a big loss of a top prospect to injury. Sandwiched in between was the major league debut for OF prospect Richie Palacios who has made a big impression on the big league club thus far. Let's take a look at the Affiliate teams, their top performers and the highlights of the week.


Low-A Lynchburg Hillcats (11-12)


After a rough start to the season the Hillcats have turned the corner having won 8 of their last 10 games. Pitching has been the strength as they are 4th in the league with a 3.67 team ERA and 2nd in strikeouts with 248 in 179 innings. Offensively it's been a bit of a struggle as they are hitting .234 as a team with only 3 HR"s through 23 games. Let's take a look at the top individual performers.


IF- Milan Tolentino: .400, 5 2B, 9 RBI, 16 BB, 4 SB, .528 OBP, 1.019 OPS

C- Victor Planchart: .333, 3 2B, 6 RBI, .813 OPS

High-A Lake County Captains (10-11)


The Captains split the 6-game series with visiting Lansing this past week. Guardians 2021 1st round pick Gavin Williams turned in another great pitching performance for the Captains and has been as advertised so far. They have struggled offensively through the first 21 games hitting only .218 as a team. They rank 10th (out of 12) in homeruns with 14 and 11th in runs scored. This team is built on pitching as they lead the league in ERA with a stellar 2.95 team ERA. They have allowed the least amount of earned runs and a .209 opponents average. Here are the top individual performers.

IF- Raynel Delgado: .286, 2 2B, 6 RBI, 2 SB

IF- Jhonkensy Noel: 3 2B, 6 HR, 16 RBI, 8 BB, .593 SLG, .926 OPS

AA Akron Rubberducks (11-10)


After losing the first two games to Altoona to start the week, the Ducks rolled of 4 straight wins to take the series and get over the .500 mark. It's been a struggle at the plate for Akron as they are hitting only .215 as a team with a league low 12 home runs and 78 runs scored. Their pitching staff is in the middle of the pack with a 3.93 ERA but do lead the league in strikeouts with 254 in 183 innings. Let's look at the top individual performers.

AAA Columbus Clippers (16-8)


The Clippers continued their solid play taking the series vs Louisville 4-2. As a team they are batting .248 which ranks in the middle of the pack. They are 3rd in the league in both home runs (36) and runs scored (143). Pitching wise they rank 4th in team ERA (3.70) and 4th in earned runs allowed (86) but rank near the bottom in strikeouts. Here are their top performers.

Injury update. Infielder Tyler Freeman reported to the Columbus Clippers this week after recovery from shoulder surgery.


Unfortunately IF Gabriel Arias fractured his hand on Sunday vs Louisville and will be out indefinitely.
