Great Lakes Tank Captains With 3 Home Run Day

Updated: Aug 7, 2022

Eastlake, OH - The Lake County Captains (12-14) took on the Great Lakes Loons (15-12) at Classic Park with an 11 AM start time. The crowd was buzzing as buses brought in doves of kids to the park, on a special field trip day to the park for many school children, amplifying the crowd and giving the Captains a audible boost.

Tanner Bibee (0-1 with a 1.08 ERA) was on the mound to start for the Captains, while Nick Nastrini (0-0 with a 3.09 ERA) started for the Loons.

Bibee got into trouble in the top of the 2nd inning, runners on first and third with one out, Bibee threw a wild pitch, scoring Loons OF Aldrich De Jongh. Bibee then got a fly out and struck out OF Ismael Alcantra to get out of the inning only giving up 1 run.

Loons IF Eddys Leonard started off the top of 4 with double to right center, but that was the only hit of the inning as Bibee got out of it unscathed.

Robbie Peto (0-0 with a 2.87 ERA) relieved Nastrini for the Loons in the bottom of the 5th. His first hitter was IF Raynel Delgado who is hitting .293 on the season for Lake County and on his very first pitch launched a solo home run deep to right center tying the game at 1-1.

Randy Labaut (2-0 with a 4.00 ERA) took over for Bibee in the bottom of the 6th and unfortunately had the same fate as Peto did in the inning prior giving up a solo home run to the first batter he faced in Loons OF Jonny DeLuca. DeLuca is hitting .235, but that solo blast was his 8th home run on the season, putting the Loons back in the lead 2-1.

Jordan Jones (2-1 with a 0.82 ERA) came into the game in top of the 8th for the Captains and once again OF Jonny DeLuca for the Loons went yard hitting his 2nd home run of the game and 9th home run of the season into the left field bleachers, and the Loons a 3-1 lead.

C Kekai Rios added insult to injury with another solo home run for the Loons in the top of the 9th, the third of the day off of Captains reliever Raymond Burgos (1-1 with a 5.87 ERA) send the Captains into the bottom of the 9th trailing 4-1.

Relief pitcher Jose Hernandez came into the game for the Loons in the 8th and stayed into the bottom of the 9th going one, two, three, including a final strike out of Captains DH Gabriel Rodriguez, which was the Captains 12th strike out of the day.

The Captains just never seemed to be able to get their offense going, but will have another chance tomorrow with a 6:35 PM start time. No pitcher as of yet has been announced.
