Garrettsville, OH- On a crisp Thursday evening at James A. Garfield High School the G-MEN welcomed in the Brookfield Warriors for an MVAC baseball matchup. Sophomore Brayden Sangregorio took the mound for Brookfield while the G-MEN had ace Eric Geddes on the bump. He came into the came 5-0 with a 0.97 ERA.
Geddes got off to a fast start on the mound as he struck out the side in the top of the 1st inning.
In the bottom half Brandyn Bogucki (.571) led off with a walk. With one out Geddes ripped a double to left putting runners at 2nd and 3rd. Vinnie Grandizio brought home the first run of the game on an RBI fielders choice ground out. The G-MEN led 1-0 after one.
The top of the 2nd was another 1-2-3 inning for Geddes as he struck out a pair giving him 5 strikeouts through the first two innings.
Garfield got the bats going in the bottom half scoring 6 runs on 6 hits. Eric Geddes and Leo Grandizio each had run scoring doubles to highlight the scoring for the G-MEN. They built a 7-0 lead after two.
Brookfield tried to get something going offensively in the top of the 3rd. Brandon Hardman led off with a walk. Tariq Omar then reached on a fielding error to put runners at 1st and 2nd with nobody out. Geddes was able to get out of trouble retiring the next three straight, two of them via strikeout giving him 7 through 3 innings. The bottom of the 3rd was a big one for Garfield as they scored 7 runs with only 4 base hits. They were aided by 3 walks and 2 batters hit by pitches. Geddes, Aiden Hill and Leo Grandizio each had run scoring singles and Carter Bates capped it off with a bases loaded 2-run single. The rout was on as Garfield led 14-0 after three.
In the top of the 4th, Geddes allowed hit first hit with two outs, an infield single by Hunter Warrender. He was able to retire Hays Montgomery to end the inning. In the bottom half of the 4th, Garfield put another 5 on the board. Geddes led off the bottom half with his third double of the game giving him a County leading 9 on the season. Pinch hitter Tyler Lutz brought him home with an RBI single. A few more runs came across on a wild pitch and a fielders choice groundout before Jackson Sommer rounded out the scoring for Garfield with a bloop RBI single increasing the G-MEN lead to 19-0 after four.
Geddes finished the game just like he started it, striking out the side in the top of the 5th finishing off a 1-hit shutout gem.
Geddes led the way for Garfield going 4/5 at the plate with 3 doubles and 2 RBI. On the mound he went the distance going 5 innings allowing 1 hit, 1 walk and striking out 11.
Garfield lead-off hitter Brandyn Bogucki drew 4 walks and stole 5 bases.
It was a rough day at the plate for the Warriors with only the one single and only 3 base runners the entire game. The G-MEN move to 14-3 on the season.
