Gates Mills, Ohio-- A sunny Friday night in Gates Mills was the scene. Two undefeated rivals, Gilmour Academy and Hawken High, matched up as the Gilmour Lancers would come out victorious.

After forcing a 3 and out Gilmour opened with a big 30 yard plus completion from Jake Kavic to Lars Bromberg.

Kavic would eventually run in a three yard quarterback keeper to strike first giving Gilmour a seven point lead.

Hawken opened the drive with a 1st down completion from Donavan Morehead to Tommy Wright.

Jordan Johnson would then rushed for a string of carries getting Hawken in field goal range.

Hawken capitalized with a field goal cutting the lead to 7-3.

Gilmour responded with another big 30 yard pass completion from Kivac to Matt Lambert.

Kivac then ran in another quarterback keeper from 12 yards out.

Gilmour led 13-3.

Luke Mangini would pick up 25 yards with a catch out the backfield before quarter would end.

After another first down reception from Tommy Wright, Morehead would throw a 16 yard touchdown pass to Charlie Mallett.

After several possessions the half would end with Gilmour leading 13-10.

Gilmour came out in the second half with an emphatic effort setting the tone in the 3rd.

Andy Kavic was huge as he caught two touchdown passes, along with a 42 yard run to close the quarter.

When asked about his outstanding 3rd quarter Kavic said, “I consider myself a competitive guy…I had to play my heart out.”

The Lancers had other huge plays like a sack from Nick Speyer and a punt block from Aiden Mcnamara.

The dominant Lancer effort held Hawken scoreless in the quarter as it ended with Gilmour leading 34-10.

The fourth also would open in Gilmour’s favor as it started with a fumble recovery from Brody Lennon.

That would set up a Matt Lambert 10 yard touchdown catch to put the Lancers up 41-10.

After a series of empty possessions the game would end after an interception from CJ Santagata for Gilmour.

I got a chance to ask Head Coach Tom Kaufman about the win.

“These kids are incredible, all the credit goes to them… we train them hard, we coach them hard so that they can do things like this.”

The Lancers will be in action at home again at 7 PM September 8th to take on NDCL.
