Domen & Soltis Combine for 310 yards & 4 TDs in 34-14 Homecoming Win Over the Red Devils

Middlefield OH- I got to take a trip back to a place I called "home" for many years. Richard A. Moss Field saw the (4-2) Crestwood Red Devils and RB Nate Blasiole make the trip out to Cardinal High School to face the (3-3) Cardinal Huskies and WR/DB Troy Domen in a CVC Valley Division clash.

The Cardinal Huskies and QB Cal Ciminello got possession first to start homecoming. Cardinal was forced to punt on that opening drive, as Nate Blasiole and the Crestwood offense got their first possession of the night. In a span of 4 carries, Blasiole picked up 46 yards, all the way down to the Huskie 6 yard line. His next carry went for a loss of 4, as the Huskie defense bent but didn't break, forcing a turnover on downs. Kyle Sinclair picked up the first Cardinal first down as the Huskies moved up to their own 19. On the next snap, Reese Soltis went 81 yards to paydirt to put the Huskies on top with 3:57 left in the first quarter.

Landon Gallagher's extra-point was blocked to keep the Red Devil deficit at 6. With just under 4 minutes left, the Crestwood offense, led by QB Charlie Sommer, worked their way into the Cardinal red zone, set up with 1st & 10 from the 20 at the end of the opening quarter.

A 5-yard gain from Blasiole set up his 15-yard trip to the endzone to knot the game at 6. An unsuccessful 2 point conversion kept the score even at 6.

Cal Ciminello got the next Huskie drive started off right, ripping off a 22-yard scamper down to the Red Devil 43-yard line. Just a few plays later, Troy Domen took the snap out of the wildcat formation, taking off to the endzone for a 34 yard score.

Crestwood's offense had gone silent on their next drive, being forced to punt. A 22-yard punt return by Christian Cowle set the Huskie offense up at the Crestwood 48. A pre-snap shift from the Cardinal offense set them up for success. Troy Domen took another wildcat snap and went the distance from 48-yards out. Gallagher's point-after was successful, and that took us to halftime as the Cardinal Huskies held a 20-6 lead over the Crestwood Red Devils.

The Red Devils would counter the score from Cardinal to start the 3rd quarter. Charlie Sommer found Wyatt Januska for a gain of 19. Nate Blasiole followed with a few runs to set Crestwood up at the Huskies 9. Blasiole picked up another 7, and on the next snap took the plunge from two yards out for the score.

Moments later, he would score the two-point conversion to trim their deficit down to 20-14 with 5:51 left in the 3rd quarter. On the ensuing drive, taking just under 5 minutes off the game clock, the Huskies would find the endzone again. On the scoring drive, Reese Soltis and Troy Domen helped the Huskies get within striking distance of the endzone. With the ball inside the 3, Cal Cimenello took the snap and dove for the endzone for the score.

WIth 57 seconds left in the 3rd, Crestwood looked to answer. The Cardinal defense held strong forcing another punt off a defensive stand capped off by Neil Lucariello's 4-yard tackle for loss.

The opening drive of the 4th quarter for the Huskies didn't last long. With the ball at mid-field, Domen took another wildcat snap, this time looking to pass. He found Logan Strever wide open for the touchdown. Landon Gallagher would drill his final extra-point on the night to put the Huskies up 34-14.

That score would hold, as the Huskies defense continued to dominate. Kyle Sinlair and Neil Lucarillo both picked up sacks in the 4th quarter as Cardinal would run out the clock on Crestwood to pick up win number 4 on the season.
