Heading into the fourth quarter, the contest between the Wildcats and the Wolverines looked like it might come down to the wire as West Geauga had cut Mayfield's lead down to just five points at the end of three.
But Nav Buttar and Olivia Williams had a different vision of how the fourth quarter would proceed. In fact, Buttar and Williams combined for 24 fourth quarter points as the Wildcats defeated the Wolverines, 74-49.
"We had a group huddle before the game, after our warm up, and we said we are going to play as a team, we're going to communicate and that's what we went out there and did,” said Buttar.
Added Mayfield Wildcats Head Girls Basketball Coach, Cullen Harris, “We had a low scoring third quarter. We got really good shots, we took care of the ball, the shots were just not falling. We told the girls in between quarters, ‘guys we work on these shots constantly, these are the ones we want to shoot’. ‘Keep shooting with confidence’.
And that is exactly what Buttar did.
In the post-game interview Buttar talked about her amazing fourth quarter in which she scored 18 points to propel the Wildcats to victory.
"We practice how we play,” said Buttar. Coach told me, ‘Keep shooting the ball. Keep doing what you're good at’.
"And that's what I'm good at".
“I'm good at shooting. So he was like just ‘catch the ball and shoot it. Get a look, shoot it’. And that's what I did, and I knocked them down.”
For the game, Buttar led all scorers with 32 points.
