Brush Lady Arcs bulldoze the Lady Bulldogs 67-34

LYNDHURST, OH— The Brush Lady Arcs were dominant in all phases, as they cruised to a 67-34 win over the Canton-McKinley Lady Bulldogs. Brush improves to 10-2 while the Lady Bulldogs fall to 7-7.

Every facet of the game had Brush performing much better than McKinley. The main aspects in which Brush got the better of their opponent was turning their defense into offense. They quickly showed an aggressive press defense that allowed no room for McKinley to operate. Even if the Lady Bulldogs found way to break half court, they were met with lots of pressure right in their face. That pressure caused lot of turnovers and Brush is a very dangerous team when they get on the transition game, which helped to manufacture a good chunk of the Lady Arc point total.

When Brush set up their offense, they were also explosive. Lots of great shooters got to display their talents in the first quarter, such as the Mason sisters, Tatiana and Nyla. Throughout the remainder of the game, the post play from Jakalyn Brown was the dominant force inside.

The Lady Arcs were also helped out offensively by offensive rebounds and second chance points. Their presence at the rim was not to be matched by McKinley on either side of the floor. Brush also displayed their elite level ball movement, as there often were possessions with more passes than dribbles, keeping the McKinley defense on their toes.

The first quarter started with Mya Naylor, the star player for the Lady Bulldogs, got on the fast break. It was all downhill for the Lady Pups from here. Nyla Mason opened Brush’s scoring with a corner triple, then her sister got hot. Tatiana Mason went on a personal 7-0 run to put the Lady Arcs up 10-2.

The rest of the way in the first saw the aforementioned transition offense on full display for Brush, as they led 24-9 after one, punctuated by Tatiana Mason hitting a long-range three at the buzzer.

The second quarter was much of the same, as Brown got lots of work inside for the Lady Arcs and the second chance points came to life. Taylor was still trying to find life for McKinley, but Brush always had an answer and led 39-16 at the half.

Brush went on to outscore McKinley 25-13 in the third quarter and 28-18 for the second half as they take home a crushing 67-34 win.

Tatiana Mason led Brush in scoring with 21 points and four three-pointers. Her sister, Nyla, finished with nine, and two players had 13 points in the effort: Brown and ChaniyraMcDowell-Isaacs. Taylor led McKinley with 16, as no other Lady Bulldog had more than four.

Brush will take on the Shaw Cardinals on Thursday, Jan. 9 and McKinley will be back in action against the Green Bulldogs on Wednesday, Jan. 8.
