MACEDONIA, Ohio- The Nordonia Knights had a first-hand account with the Skaljac show tonight. Luke tormented the Knights offensively and defensively on all ends of the court. He scored 30 points and tallied eight rebounds, four assists, and seven steals in the Bees dominant 65-49 win. Brecksville wore their warm-up shirts with the symbol that stood for trust once again. The Bees displayed that tonight, sharing the ball and taking essential possessions all night.
"Coach before the game talks about possessions and ball handling and we did a great job with that in the first half, in the third quarter we got a little sloppy but we picked it back up in the fourth," said Skaljac. "If we can keep playing with that ball movement, we will continue our great season."
Brecksville's defense was a black hole tonight. Anytime the ball came near someone, it got stolen. The Bees forced Nordonia into 15 turnovers and outrebounded them 32-7. Nordonia's leading scorer tonight was Jason Janosek, who scored 10 points, and Trevor Turnbull added another eight points. The Bees suffocated the Knights when shooting from deep. Nordonia shot 4/18 from behind the arc tonight.
The Bees offense shot great tonight, going 23/34 from the field and 7/15 from deep. A big part of tonight's matchup was the Knights sending the Bees to the line 20 times. The Bees made 12/20 shots from the stripe.
Early on in the game, both teams came out and played their games. Brecksville eventually picked up the pace and took off. The Bees entered the second quarter leading 19-12 and then went nuclear. Brecksville took a commanding 43-23 lead at the half. Luke Skaljac ended the half with a deep three at the buzzer. Skaljac had 19 points, six rebounds, four assists, and four steals at halftime.
"Luke's Special and that little flow where he gets a stretch and just does his thing separates the game for us," said Mehalik. "What Coach Sanders is doing over there, those guys are playing ridiculous defense, so it says a lot about our guys when they're able to put up 40 at halftime."
Luke Skaljac and The Bees will host North Royalton on Tuesday, Feb. 6. Tip-off will occur at 7:30 p.m.
Coach Sanders and Nordonia will look to snap a two-game losing streak when they host the Wadsworth Grizzlies on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 6:30 p.m.
