Berkshire Badgers 2023 Volleyball Season Preview

Fresh off a 2nd place finish in the CVC, the Badgers are aiming to get over the hump and win conference for the first time since 2017. They wrapped up 2022 at 16-9, going 8-2 vs. CVC opponents. The only losses in conference play were to the eventual CVC champs. The Badgers season came to an end in a regional tournament loss to Lake Catholic. Their long tenured head coach Joni Prots has her teams focus on taking the CVC crown from Kirtland. Berkshire open the season at home against the Solon Comets. This will be Berkshires first season opener at home in the new gym. September 12th and 14th the Badgers begin CVC play. The reigning conference champs, Kirtland Hornets, venture to Burton to face the Badgers. Berkshire will host the Beachwood Bison just two days later. After a quick home match against the Conneaut Spartans, the Badgers open up an 8 game stretch of conference games, likely the most important 8 game stretch if Berkshire wants to accomplish it's goals. This stretch includes two games against the Huskies, Mustangs and Red Devils before they end the season at Riverside.

I spoke with seniors Sammi Winter about her senior season.

Junior Kirsten Shaffer and I talked about her journey through injury and the work it's taken to make varsity this season.

And finally I interviewed Coach Joni Prots as she reflected on her CVC titles of the past, as well as her relationship with the senior class.
