Rocky River, Ohio - On Tuesday afternoon the Avon Lake Shoremen faced off against the Padua Bruins in game 2 of the Rocky River Holiday Classic. Avon Lake came into this game undefeated at 6-0 while Padua was 1-5.
Winning the tip was Avon Lake and Isaac Richardson was hit with a backdoor cut to get the first points of the game. Avon Lake quickly went on an 8-0 run but that was stopped by Riley Cervenka’s 3-pointer for Padua. Avon Lake got a fast break opportunity and Richardson scored a layup with ease. Derek McCrum also scored an and-one layup in transition after getting his defender in the air with a pump fake. Avon Lake held a 22-6 lead after one.
To start the second period Jesse Hayes hit an and-one for Padua but missed his free throw. Collin Stewart made his own and-one for Avon Lake. Keegan Rudduck was hit in the face on accidental contact and got a bloody nose. Thankfully he was okay.
Padua missed four free throws in a row after an offensive rebound leading to another foul shot opportunity. Richardson made another shot, this one on the right wing. Hayes tipped the ball in for Padua off of a missed jump shot later in the quarter. The score at the half was 38-19 in favor of the Shoreman. Richardson led Avon Lake with 13.
To start the third Richardson scored in the paint to get the first points of the half. Richardson later cut to the rim, and slammed the ball down. Avon Lake went on an 11-0 run to start the half. Padua’s head coach Brian Ansberry was whistled for a technical foul, and Tyler Birk hit both of the free throws for Avon Lake.
