Alliance, OH- When you think Aviators, the first thing that comes to mind is flight. Tonight, in a week 10 battle with down the road rival Marlington, it was the was the ground game that pounded the Duke Pound into submission.
The scoring got underway following a time consuming opening drive by the Dukes that ended in a Jayce Zagray 27 yard field go to put the Dukes on the board. The Aviators would answer back on their ensuing drive with Junior running back Ravahn Hawkins toting the rock to pay dirt from 7 out.
The Dukes regained the lead following a 4 yard run from Senior running back Cavaill Nicholson in the 2nd quarter. From there, it was the Ravhan Hawkins Show. The next drive, Hawkins amassed 46 yards on 4 carries, ending with a 13 yard touchdown run. He would account for each play and yard the Aviators gained that drive.
Junior Quarterback JR Jackson wanted to get in on the fun on the next Aviator drive, running one in from 21 yards out to extend the lead to 21-10 with 2:45 left in the half. The Aviators weren't done, tacking on one more score before half, a Hawkins 5 yard run giving him 3 in the half to extend the mark to 28-10 at the break.
The Aviators took possession to start the 2nd half and once again relied on the legs of their 11th grade back, this time it was his longest run on the season, from 37 yards out to pull the Aviators and Dukes further apart.
With it being senior night and the game mostly out of hand, coach Goodman turned to one of his 4 seniors to push the game to a running clock. Senior running back and line backer Carter Fast rumbled in from 5 yards out to eclipse the 30 point lead to send the game into a running clock with 3:55 left in the 3rd and the scoreboard reading 41-10.
The Aviators would add one more score, with another senior taking it to the house, as senior safety Brady White picked a Dukes pass off near midfield and cut up the sideline to the end zone to make it 47-10.
On the night, Hawkins totaled 165 yards on 20 carries with 4 touchdowns. This is the 4th straight season the Aviators have knocked off their rivals bring the trophy back to the case at Alliance High.
The win gives the Aviators a 4-6 record on the year while the loss drops the Dukes to 2-8. Neither team will be moving on to the play-offs.
