Akron Rubberducks Come Back from 4-1 Deficit to Defeat Richmond Flying Squirrels, 9-4, on Saturday Night

After trailing early on Saturday night, the Akron Rubberducks came back from a 4-1 deficit to defeat the Richmond Flying Squirrels, 9-4.


To get the victory, the Rubberducks scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 4-4. 


Then, in the fifth inning, the Rubberducks added three runs to go up 7-4.


The Rubberducks added two runs in the eighth inning to make the final score 9-4.


Although the Rubberducks made a comeback from an early deficit, they did score first in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by Kody Huff.


After the Flying Squirrels scored 4 runs in the top of the second inning, the Rubberducks scored three in the fourth to tie the game at 4-4.


The Rubberducks scored in the fourth inning on a triple by Milan Tolentino which scored Joe Naranjo.


The Rubberducks scored their second run of the fourth inning on an RBI single by Micael Ramirez which scored Tolentino.

The Rubberducks then tied the game at 4-4 on an RBI single by Petey Halpin.

In the fifth inning, the Rubberducks took a 7-4 lead as they scored three additional runs.


First, the Rubberducks scored when Tolentino drove in a run with an RBI single to give the Rubberducks a 5-4 lead.

Then, Micael Ramirez drove In two more runs in the fifth inning with an RBI single to give the Rubberducks a 7-4 lead.


The Rubberducks added two runs in the eighth inning when Joe Naranjo and Dyan Frias had RBI singles to make the final score 9-4.


For the game, the Rubberducks had two players with multiple hits including Milan Tolentino (2-5, triple, 2 RBI) and Micael Ramirez (2-4, 3 RBI).


On the mound, Jamie Arias picked up the victory for the Rubberducks as he threw five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and striking out eight.


The Rubberducks bullpen performed well as they did not allow a run over four innings of work. 


Pitching the sixth and seventh inning was Jack Leftwich. Throwing the eighth inning for the Rubberducks was Erik Sabrowski.


Closing out the game for the Rubberducks was Andrew Walters, the Guardians 25th top ranked prospect.


In one inning of work, Walters struck out two batters and did not give up a run.


So far this year, Walters has thrown 12.1 innings and only given up one earned run, while  striking out 26 batters.


With the victory, the Rubberducks move to 17-9 on the season.
